What is CaptureItPlus:
Threat Classification: PUP/adware
If suddenly your browser starts displaying lots of Ads by CaptureItPlus (a.k.a. CaptureIt Plus), our security researchers took a closer look at these issued and concluded that the CaptureItPlus (CaptureIt Plus) software is a dangerous adware and/or a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). Furthermore, our security experts found out that the CaptureItPlus Ads were caused by a malicious browser extension, capable of infiltrating various computers without asking for permission or any user consent. Our security analysts decided to issue a warning regarding the CaptureItPlus Ads and strongly advise users to perform a full system malware scan, using an up-to-date, reputable & very reliable anti-malware software like SpyHunter 4. Our security experts found out that the CaptureItPlus Ads are caused by a malicious browser extension, which has been designed to earn a revenue for its owners by showing sponsor ads on almost every requested web page. After performing some extra tests, our security researchers discovered that when installed the adware starts collecting private information from the victim’s computer including Web Searches, Browsing History & Information, Usernames & Passwords, E-mail addresses, Cookies, Location History, Names, SSN, Credit Card information and/or other private financial information and even online bank accounts information. The collected data will later be either sold or shared with some other 3rd party company and will be used for their own marketing purposes. Our security experts warned us, that even though CaptureItPlus (or CaptureIt Plus) claims to provide many useful & handy features for creating desktop screenshots, it has been classified as a dangerous adware and/or a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) by the majority of the reputable malware researchers on the Internet. It appears that the adware has been distributed using suspicious, questionable or even dangerous software bundles, configured to perform a hidden install of CaptureItPlus by default using silent or stealth mode. If your PC starts showing you lots of these annoying ads “by CaptureItPlus” , “Ads by CaptureItPlus”, “CaptureItPlus Ads”, “Ad by CaptureItPlus”, “Powered by CaptureItPlus”, “Brought by CaptureItPlus”, “Optimized by CaptureItPlus” or “Brought to you by CaptureItPlus” – you should consider it compromised & infected by the CaptureItPlus (a.k.a. CaptureIt Plus) adware. Please note, that the ads, shown by the CaptureItPlus should NOT BE considered SAFE and we strongly advise you to avoid clicking on them! The CaptureItPlus adware works with all the well-known web browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.
Generally, users that have it installed on their computers might experience various pop-up or pop-under ads, coupon boxes, banners, search suggestion windows, sponsored link advertisements or other commercials, displayed on almost all requested web pages. Please note, that the search results should be considered compromised as well, usually filled with 3rd party advertising and SPAM.
CaptureItPlus is usually bundled with some other free ad-supported software products and is being installed by default while performing an express/default installation, right after the user accepts the EULA. That’s why we strongly advise you to always opt-out and use custom installation if possible and if it’s available, you should always deselect/exclude all of the unwanted software programs from the bundle installation process. You should leave selected (included) for installation only the initially requested software. The possible distribution of CaptureItPlus varies but is not limited to – installing 3rd party toolbars, free software products, video editing software, various multimedia codecs, downloading e-mail attachments, clicking suspicious ads or banners etc.
The main goal of CaptureItPlus is to generate as much web traffic as possible, that could easily be monetized via one of the many online marketing platforms. Please note, that the creators of that or similar adware will collect private information from your computer, that might be used to track your browsing habits, IP addresses, Bookmarks, Usernames, Passwords and even financial information, however often they collect much more than just that. That’s why this infection should not be left unattended, and needs to be terminated immediately, as it presents a serious threat to your online, personal and financial safety.
