Our security experts have concluded that although Search Know claims to provide lots of useful features, it has been classified as a dangerous adware and a PUP by the majority of the security teams around the world. After running some tests our security department found out that, the adware contains a malicious browser extension, that was distributed mainly via questionable or even dangerous software bundles, configured to install the Search Know by default in silent (or stealth) mode, concealing it from the victims. This kind of adware is used by developers to generate income by redirecting web traffic to their sponsor links or ads. If your desktop is overflown by ads “by Search Know” , “Ads by Search Know”, “Search Know Ads”, “Ad by Search Know”, “Powered by Search Know”, “Brought by Search Know”, “Optimized by Search Know” or “Brought to you by Search Know” – you should consider your computer infected by the Search Know adware. Furthermore, it could collect all kind of sensitive and private information from your computer, including browsing history, tracking cookies, usernames, emails, IP addresses and even financial information. Please note, that the ads, shown by the Search Know should not be considered as safe and you should avoid clicking on them! The adware works just fine with all the well-known web browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.
Generally, users that have it installed on their systems might experience various pop-up or pop-under ads, coupon boxes, banners, search suggestion windows, sponsored link advertisements or other commercials, displayed on popular web pages. The victim’s search results are compromised as well. Usually the search results are full of 3rd party advertising and SPAM.
Search Know is usually bundled with some other free ad-supported software products and is being installed by default, when the user accepts the EULA, while performing an express/quick or recommended installation of that software bundle. The possible distribution of Search Know varies but is not limited to – installing third-party toolbars, free software products, video editing software, codecs, downloading e-mail attachments, clicking on not safe ads or banners etc.
The main goal of Search Know is to generate as much web traffic as possible, that could easily be monetized via one of the many online marketing platforms. Please note, that the creators of that or similar adware collect private information from your computer, that might be used to track your browsing habits, IP addresses, Bookmarks, Usernames, Passwords and even financial information, however often they collect much more than just that. That’s why this infection should not be left unattended, and needs to be terminated immediately, as it presents a serious threat to your online, personal and financial safety.
