What is MyNewsGuide Toolbar:

Threat Classification: Browser Hijacker/PUP/Adware

MyNewsGuide or MyNewsGuide Toolbar is an application, developed by Mindspark Interactive Network company, and is classified as a browser hijacker by the majority of the security researchers, however it is also a PUP as well. Initially the MyNewsGuide Toolbar, seems to be a potentially unwanted program, which once installed and active becomes a browser hijacker. The toolbar will modify browsers settings, making the recovery even harder, then it changes the default search engine to Ask.com and the default home page to http://home.tb.ask.com. The toolbar application starts a browsing history monitor as well as search history information collection, which later will either be sold or shared with other 3rd parity marketing agencies. The browser hijacker will attach itself to every popular web browser on the victim’s PC, to compromise the browser`s settings such as the home page and the default search engine. When the user performs a search, it will be redirected to http://home.tb.ask.com/. The search results should be considered compromised – usually they are loaded with SPAM and 3rd parity advertising.

Usually, MyNewsGuide Toolbar comes packed with other free software products and is being installed by default, when the user accepts the EULA, while performing an express/recommended installation of that software. The possible distribution of the MyNewsGuide Toolbar varies but is not limited to – installing third-party toolbars, free software products, downloading e-mail attachments, clicking on ads or banners etc..

MyNewsGuide Toolbar will fill your browser screen with unwanted advertising, trying to attract more users to the advertised web pages and generate income from the online traffic. MyNewsGuide Toolbar may keep track of your browsing activity and steal valuable information as login credentials, financial information and even bank accounts data. This information might be sent to third-party companies, which might used it for marketing purposes or for something else. That’s why this infection should not be left unattended, and needs to be terminated immediately, as it seems to be a serious threat to your online security.

!!! Please note that these kinds of infections could potentially bring up other malware to your computer and even cause loss of data. We strongly recommend you to not underestimate such threats.
