What is ListingsPortal Toolbar:

Threat Classification: Browser Hijacker

ListingsPortal or Listings Portal or ListingsPortal Toolbar is another ad-supported application developed by Mindspark Interactive Network company and is considered a browser hijacker, an adware and a PUP by the majority of the security researchers. Once installed on the victim’s computer, the toolbar will first corrupt the browsers settings, making the recovery even harder, then it will replace the default search engine to Ask.com and the default home page to http://home.tb.ask.com. The browser hijacker will attach itself to every popular web browser on the victim’s PC. When the user performs a search, he/she will be redirected to http://home.tb.ask.com/. The search results are compromised and usually they are loaded with SPAM and third-party advertising.

Usually, ListingsPortal Toolbar comes packed with other free software products and is being installed by default when the user accepts the EULA while performing an express/recommended installation of that software. The possible distribution of the ListingsPortal Toolbar varies but is not limited to – installing third-party toolbars, free software products, downloading e-mail attachments, clicking on ads or banners etc..

ListingsPortal Toolbar will fill your browser screen with unwanted advertising, trying to attract more users to the advertised web pages and generate income from the online traffic. ListingsPortal Toolbar may keep track of your browsing activity and steal valuable information as login credentials, financial information and even bank accounts data. This information might be sent to third-party companies, which might used it for marketing purposes or for something else. That’s why this infection should not be left unattended, and needs to be terminated immediately, as it seems to be a serious threat to your online security.

!!! Please note that these kinds of infections could potentially bring up other malware to your computer and even cause loss of data. We strongly recommend you to not underestimate such threats.
