What is GetFlightInfo:

Threat Classification: Browser Hijacker/PUP

According to the majority of the most reputable and reliable malware experts, the GetFlightInfo ( or as it is also known Get Flight Info Toolbar, GetFlightInfo or GetFlightInfo Extension) is another web browser application, that was developed by Mindspark Interactive Network Inc. and is powered by MyWay. The GetFlightInfo claims to provide various useful and handy flight Information – arrivals and departure times of certain flights, however, even some initially interested users have noticed, that this web app should be classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) and a browser hijacker. Some of you might already noticed the similarities between the MyTransiteGuide Toolbar, AtoZManuals Toolbar and GetFormsOnline Toolbar – these web applications were also developed by the notorious MindSpark Interactive Networks, and were also classified as PUPs and browser hijackers, mostly because of the distribution method used and the suspicious behavior it has when installed and activated. Our malware experts found out, that when the GetFlightInfo Toolbar is distributed using software bundles, it is fully capable of overwriting some of the web browser settings, without users’ consent. Furthermore, they’ve also noticed, that the GetFlightInfo is actually legalizing the future data mining on users’ machine – they’ve stated that the software could monitor and collect various browser information, which according to our experts represents a security threat for users’ online identity and computer safety. That’s why, our security experts recommend all affected users to run a full system malware scan, using some up-to-date and reliable anti-malware software, like the award-winning SpyHunter

Usually, GetFlightInfo comes packed with some popular and free “ad-supported” software program in a software bundle. The software bundle has an automatic program installer, which is set by default to silent or stealth installation and if the user accepts the product’s EULA and hasn’t opted-out express/recommended install, the system will be overtaken from the rogue programs, which were set by the software bundle installer. The possible distribution of the GetFlightInfo varies but is not limited to – other 3rd party toolbars, free PDF editors, free Video editors, free Video downloaders, infected e-mail attachments, suspicious torrents etc.

GetFlightInfo may keep track of your browsing activity and could monitor and collect all kind of valuable browser information, including private data like search terms, search result URL, browser history, email addresses, account credentials including username & password, cookies, financial information like bank accounts, credit card numbers etc. The collected data will later be either sold or shared with some 3rd party companies, which will use it for their own marketing purposes. That’s why such infections should not be left unattended and need to be terminated immediately, as they appear to represent a serious threat to users online identity and computer safety and security.

The GetFlightInfo web application is almost identical with the MyTransitGuide Toolbar, AtoZManuals Toolbar, GetFormsOnline ToolbarMyMapsWizard Toolbar or EasyDirectionsFindee Toolbar and InternetSpeedRadar Toolbar, all of which were classified as PUPs and browser hijackers by our malware experts and by the most reputable and reliable malware researchers around the Internet.

!!! Please note that these kinds of infections could potentially bring up other malware to your computer and even cause loss of data. We strongly recommend you to not underestimate such threats.
