How to remove DownloadManagerNow Toolbar
What is DownloadManagerNow Toolbar:
Threat Classification: Browser Hijacker/PUP
DownloadManagerNow or DownloadManagerNow Toolbar is a fairly old application, that claims to provides many useful features, that could improve your computer experience, however our security experts have classified it as a malicious browser hijacker and/or a PUP. It has been developed by the MindSpark Interactive Networks Inc. and was classified as a browser hijacker by the majority of the reputable security researchers as well. Initially the DownloadManagerNow Toolbar seems to be a very useful program – managing download tasks, schedule them and perform complex download tasks sounds like a very useful utility, however this application could start modifying various browser settings and windows registry keys, which could allow changing the search engine and new tab & the default home page. Furthermore, in time the computer performance decreases and various speed related issues appeared, suspicious ads and pop-up windows starts to appear as well, finally when trying to remove the program, it doesn’t show up the uninstall icon. The toolbar could and will modify browsers settings, making the recovery even harder, then it changes the default search engine to Ask.com and the default home page to http://Home.tb.ask.com/. The toolbar application will start gathering information like visited web addresses, visited ip addresses, search history, web browse history etc – this information collection will later be sold or shared with other 3rd party companies (marketing agencies). The browser hijacker will attachment itself to every popular web browser on the victim’s PC, to compromise the browser`s settings such as the home page and the default search engine. When the user performs a search, it will be redirected to http://Home.tb.ask.com/. The search results should be considered compromised – usually they are loaded with SPAM and other 3rd party advertising.
Usually, DownloadManagerNow Toolbar comes packed with other free software products and is being installed by default, when the user accepts the EULA, while performing an express/recommended installation of that software. The possible distribution of the DownloadManagerNow Toolbar varies but is not limited to – installing third-party toolbars, free software products, downloading e-mail attachments, clicking on ads or banners etc..
DownloadManagerNow Toolbar will fill your browser screen with unwanted advertising, trying to attract more users to the advertised web pages and generate income from the online traffic. DownloadManagerNow Toolbar may keep track of your browsing activity and steal valuable information as login credentials, financial information and even bank accounts data. This information might be sent to third-party companies, which might used it for marketing purposes or for something else. That’s why this infection should not be left unattended, and needs to be terminated immediately, as it seems to be a serious threat to your online security.
