How to remove Ads by Social Extras
What is Social Extras:
Threat Classification: PUP/adware
If your web browser starts showing you lots of web Ads by Social Extras, you should check your computer for adware. Social Extras is classified as an adware, by the majority of the reputable malware researchers. The Social Extras has been developed by the BuzzBox Media company and is distributed using various methods including software bundles, SPAM emails, Torrent Downloads, P2P sharing services etc. Our security researchers found out that the annoying Ads by Social Extras are caused by a malicious browser extension, that was installed using some questionable software bundle and it appears that this is a part of a vicious and dangerous malware infection, which sole purpose is to get your money and all of your private data – including usernames, passwords, email addresses, real names, SSN, Credit Card information and even financial information. Our security experts warned us, that although Social Extras may claim that it is useful, it was classified as a dangerous adware and a PUP by the majority of the reputable security experts in the world! These questionable or even dangerous software bundles are configured to install the Social Extras adware by default in silent / stealth mode, hiding the entire installation process from its victims. This kind of an adware is used by developers to generate income by redirecting hijacked web traffic to their sponsor links or ads. It will be very easy to find out if your computer is infected by the adware – take a look at your browser windows and search for any web ads, claiming to be “by Social Extras” , “Ads by Social Extras”, “Social Extras Ads”, “Ad by Social Extras”, “Powered by Social Extras”, “Brought by Social Extras”, “Optimized by Social Extras” or “Brought to you by Social Extras” – if you see some, you should consider your PC infected by the Social Extras adware. Please note, that the ads, shown by the Social Extras should NOT BE considered SAFE and you should avoid clicking on them! Our security experts strongly recommend you to perform a full system malware scan using some reputable anti-malware software like the SpyHunter 4. The adware works just fine with all the well-known web browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.
Generally, users that have it installed on their systems might experience various pop-up or pop-under ads, coupon boxes, banners, search suggestion windows, sponsored link advertisements or other commercials, displayed on popular web pages. The victim’s search results are compromised as well. Usually the search results are full of 3rd party advertising and SPAM.
Social Extras is usually bundled with some other free ad-supported software products and is being installed by default, when the user accepts the EULA, while performing an express/quick or recommended installation of that software bundle. The possible distribution of Social Extras varies but is not limited to – installing third-party toolbars, free software products, video editing software, codecs, downloading e-mail attachments, clicking on not safe ads or banners etc.
The main goal of Social Extras is to generate as much web traffic as possible, that could easily be monetized via one of the many online marketing platforms. Please note, that the creators of that or similar adware collect private information from your computer, that might be used to track your browsing habits, IP addresses, Bookmarks, Usernames, Passwords and even financial information, however often they collect much more than just that. That’s why this infection should not be left unattended, and needs to be terminated immediately, as it presents a serious threat to your online, personal and financial safety.
!!! Please note, that these infections could potentially bring up other malware to your computer and even cause a loss of data. Please do not underestimate such threats.
