What is My Coupon Buddy:

Threat Classification: PUP/adware

My Coupon Buddy or Ads by My Coupon Buddy or My Coupon Buddy Ads is an adware application, capable of displaying various ads on almost every web page you visit. If your browser starts showing ads, claiming to be “My Coupon Buddy Ads” , “Ads by My Coupon Buddy”, “My Coupon Buddy Ads”, “By My Coupon Buddy”, “Powered by My Coupon Buddy”, “Brought by My Coupon Buddy” or “Brought to you by My Coupon Buddy”, you should consider your computer infected by the My Coupon Buddy malware. It is considered a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) and/or adware program, which displays various ads shown as pop-up boxes, coupons, underlined keywords, ad banners and sponsored links. The adware works well with all the major web browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

Generally, users that have it installed on their systems might experience various pop-up or pop-under ads, coupon boxes, banners, search suggestion windows, sponsored link advertisements or other commercials, displayed on popular web pages. The infected computer might also show little buttons referring you to similar products, which would bring extra money to the adware creators. The victim’s search results are compromised as well. Usually the search results are full of third-party advertising and/or SPAM.

My Coupon Buddy is usually bundled with some other free ad-supported software products and is being installed by default, when the user accepts the EULA, while performing an express/recommended installation of that software bundle. The possible distribution of My Coupon Buddy varies but is not limited to – installing third-party toolbars, free software products, video editing software, codecs, downloading e-mail attachments, clicking on ads or banners etc..

The main purpose of My Coupon Buddy is to generate traffic to certain domains, which then could easily be monetized via one of the many online marketing platforms. Please note, that the creators of this or similar adware could collect information that might be used to track your browsing habits, however often they collect much more then just your web search history. My Coupon Buddy may use cookies and other relevant techniques, that might be used to collect private data like accounts, username, passwords, financial information including credit card and bank account information etc. That’s why this infection should not be left unattended, and needs to be terminated immediately, as it is a serious threat to your online identity.

!!! Please note, that these infections could potentially bring up other malware to your computer and even cause a loss of data. Please do not underestimate such threats.
