What is Happy Cloud:

Threat Classification: PUP/adware

Happy Cloud or Ads by Happy Cloud is a malicious browser add-on, developed by the SuperWeb LLC. and is classified as an adware and a PUP by our security experts. The Happy Cloud adware is capable of infiltrating systems without owner’s consent by hiding in software bundles. Once active, the infection starts injecting and displaying various ads on almost every web page you visit and this actually alters the original appearance of the web page. The infection is considered a PUP (potentially unwanted program) and an adware, mainly because of the intrusive web ads it displays and because of its dubious distribution method “bundling“. If your browser starts showing “Ads by Happy Cloud”, “Happy Cloud Ads”, “By Happy Cloud”, “Happy Cloud” or “Brought to you by Happy Cloud”, you should consider your computer infected.  The PUP is capable of regenerating over and over again, making the normal removal and uninstall procedure useless. It is known that it works just fine with all well-known browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

Generally, users that have it installed on their systems might see different pop-ups, banners, search suggestions, sponsored link advertisements displayed on popular pages. The search results could also being altered, displaying information loaded with spam and third-party advertising.

Happy Cloud is usually bundled with other free software products and is being installed by default, when the user accepts the EULA, while performing an express/recommended installation of that software. The possible distribution of Happy Cloud varies but is not limited to – installing third-party toolbars, free software products, downloading e-mail attachments, clicking on ads or banners etc..

The purpose of Happy Cloud is to attract more users to certain domains so that the creators of such or similar adware or malware could generate income from the generated online traffic. Happy Cloud may use cookies and other relevant information to steal your personal details. That’s why this malware infection should not be left unattended and it needs to be terminated immediately, as it is a serious threat to your online security.

!!! Please note that these infections could potentially bring up other malware to your computer and even cause a loss of data. Please do not underestimate such threats.
